Murata - Demon Slayer
Murata is a member of the Demon Slayer Corps. Murata's family was killed by demons. Because he had no living relatives left, he joined the Demon Slayer Corps.
Murata was in the same final selection as Giyu Tomioka and Sabito, being one of the many candidates who managed to survive thanks to Sabito’s efforts in killing almost all the demons on the mountain, although he eventually died at the hands of a particularly large and vengeful demon. Sabito personally entrusted Murata with Giyu's care, and the boy watched with concern as Giyu woke up after fainting.

Appearance
Murata has straight black hair and wears the uniform of the Demon Slayers.
Murata is a young man of average height and athletic build. He has straight, jet-black hair parted in the middle, fair skin, and dark eyes.
Murata wears the standard Demon Slayer uniform, predominantly black, consisting of a gakuran jacket and tattsuke-hakama trousers.
Personality
Not much is known about Murata's personality, but he seems to be braver than most other Demon Slayers, continuing to fight at the top of Mount Natagumo even after his entire group was annihilated.
Backstory
Before becoming a Demon Slayer, Murata's family was killed by demons. With no living relatives left, he joined the Demon Slayer Corps.
Murata’s story before his mission on Mount Natagumo is unknown, but like most of the early Demon Slayers sent to the mountain, he held a low rank within the Corps.
Murata was part of the same Final Selection examination as Sabito and Giyu. Despite this, he claims to have many differences compared to them.
Synopsis
Having been sent to Mount Natagumo to exterminate the demons living there, Murata meets Tanjiro Kamado and Inosuke Hashibira. He explains how the Demon Slayers sent to the region started turning on each other as soon as they arrived. He is then surprised by the arrival of another group of these marionette soldiers. Engaging in a fight with one of them, he is saved from a sneak attack by Tanjiro, who quickly introduces himself and resumes the battle. He then warns them about the possibility of stronger, controlled individuals.
Some time later, Murata is ambushed by the Spider Demon Big Sister and wrapped in her technique, from which he cannot escape. He is saved by the Insect Hashira, Shinobu Kocho.
Training and Recovery Arc
Murata visits Tanjiro, Inosuke, and Zenitsu Agatsuma at the Butterfly Mansion and complains about the dire situation of being summoned to a meeting with the Hashira to report what happened on Mount Natagumo, but he leaves hastily when Shinobu comes to visit him.
Skills & Abilities
Murata is a user of the Water Breathing technique; however, for him, water is too weak to be effective.
Although he does not match Tanjiro or Inosuke in skill, Murata’s abilities surpass those of his team, making him the only survivor. His assistance in dealing with his manipulated comrades was vital in buying time for Tanjiro and Inosuke to defeat the Spider Mother Demon. Given that the marionettes had their powers enhanced due to his Blood Demon Art, his ability to hold them back was a testament to his above-average performance. He was also able to reach the final stage of the Pillar training program, something that very few members could accomplish.
Abilities
Overall Abilities: Although Murata’s skills do not rival those of Tanjiro or Inosuke, his abilities are superior to those of his team, as evidenced by the fact that he is the sole survivor. His assistance in dealing with his manipulated comrades was vital in giving Tanjiro and Inosuke the time needed to defeat the Mother Spider Demon. Given that the powers of the marionettes were enhanced by the Demon Blood Art, his ability to hold them back was a testament to his above-average performance. He was also able to reach the final stage of the Hashira training program, something that very few members could achieve.

Water Breathing: Murata is a user of the Water Breathing technique; however, for Murata, water is too weak to be seen.

First Form: Surface Slash of Water: The user generates enough momentum to create a powerful, concentrated single attack.
Second Form: Water Wheel: The user jumps and vertically spins forward in the air while executing a smooth, circular attack.
Anecdotes
- After his encounter with the Spider Demon Big Sister and his subsequent rescue by Shinobu Kocho, Murata behaves very awkwardly around her, likely due to his persistent embarrassment.
- Murata is one of the few background characters who appears repeatedly in other arcs beyond the one in which he was introduced.
- Murata sees himself as relatively "ordinary" compared to Tanjiro, Inosuke, and Zenitsu, serving as an example of a more average Demon Slayer.
- He was part of the same Final Selection as Giyu and Sabito.
- After his first love complimented his hair, Murata dedicated himself to the care and regular application of camellia oil, giving them a silky appearance.
