⛩ Tobi is a member of Akatsuki, of which he is the original leader. Posing as Madara Uchiha, he manipulated Pain (Nagato) from the shadows, who was believed to be the "leader" of the organization. He is the main antagonist of the second part of the series.
Twelve years before the start of the series, Tobi launched an attack on Konoha with the advantage of Kyūbi. At the time of Kushina Uzumaki's childbirth, he killed a squad of Anbu responsible for the security of the delivery. Capturing the newborn, Naruto Uzumaki, he forced his father Minato Namikaze to teleport with his child to a shelter outside the village.
Meanwhile, Tobi extracted Kyūbi from Kushina and controlled it using his Sharingan. Kyūbi began its rampage in Konoha while Minato was attacked by Tobi, leading to a fight between the two characters. Just as Tobi was about to seize Minato, the latter teleported above him and struck him with a Rasengan in the back, managing to free Kyūbi from its grasp before Tobi left, stating that one day he would reclaim Kyūbi, forcing Minato to consider him a serious threat.
