He is another name for Joy Boy as Zunesha says that Joy Boy has returned when Luffy awakens for the first time in Wano, and the World Government mentions another name for the Gomu, directly referencing the liberating warrior Nika.
It is revealed that Luffy's fruit was formerly known as the Hito Hito no Mi, Model Nika, or in French, the Human-Human Fruit, Nika Version, with Nika as the model. The awakening of the Gomu Gomu no Mi thus transforms Luffy into the incarnation of Nika, and is regarded by Luffy as his Gear 5.
