Profile

Wethermon is an armed samurai who stands guard over Setsuna’s tomb. He is located in the "Hidden Field," an inverted version of the secret location, Hidden Garden. To reach him, players must begin the Unique Scenario "From the World of the Living, With Love."

At the moment the group is transported to the Hidden Garden, all players’ levels are reduced to 50. Any points applied to stats beyond level 50 are also lost, which can cause issues with equipment that has minimum stat requirements.

During the first two phases, it isn’t truly Wethermon who acts, but his mechanized armor that performs the task of guarding the tomb. It moves without any input from its owner, similar to Setsuna of the Long Past. In Phase 3, Wethermon regains consciousness. This shifts his element from "machine" to "undead." Since his physical body is "fixed" to the armor by advanced technology, the person inside is still a young man in his prime. Once Wethermon enters Phase 3, he awakens, breaking the "fixation" and aging instantly, reducing to dust, effectively ending his life. He can only continue moving until challengers uncover the secret behind Tensei, thanks to a motor that overcomes any physical failure.

Context

A long time ago, in the era known as the Divinity, a fleeting encounter combined with a lie told impulsively by Wethermon led to Setsuna’s death. Wethermon then decided to keep watch over her tomb for a very, very long time. Understanding this trait in Wethermon, Setsuna, just before her death, wished for "someone to stop him, as he will never leave his post unless forced—even if it means dying." This gave rise to Setsuna of the Long Past.

The sterile cherry blossom was planted by Wethermon next to Setsuna’s tomb; it was her favorite flower. It was "fixed" in place just like Wethermon, but unlike Wethermon’s fixation, it wasn’t as complete, causing it to slowly wither. To stop this, Wethermon used the research thesis left behind by Setsuna to tap into the magical power of the moon and "reverse" time and space around it, transporting the tomb (the Setsuna buried there) and the tree before it became fatally sick to an area beyond the edge of time and space. The "normal space" of the area is represented in the decayed wooden block, while the "back space" is an imprint made from it. Time stops in the back space at the moment of reversal; in the normal space, Setsuna’s tomb completely collapses, and although the tree still stands, it is now completely dead. However, since Setsuna was buried beneath the roots of that tree, the place where the stone once stood was considered "Setsuna’s resting place," and thus, Setsuna of the Long Past was born from the cherry blossom in the normal space.

In addition to being "fixed," the tree also received various semi-permanent treatments to extend its life. Once it died, these treatments, having nowhere to go, began energizing the vegetation over a wide area around them. This caused the normally faintly glowing luminous moss to shine as brightly as the sun, transforming what was once a large cave into a lush, jungle-like environment with flowers covering every inch of the ground. Thus, indirectly, Wethermon himself created the Prism Forest Cave as we see it today.

Wethermon Phases

  • Phase 1: Wethermon benefits from a "Super Armor" and a damage reduction effect during Phases 1 and 2, practically negating all attacks. He also blocks debuffs and other types of magic. From the moment combat begins, he always targets the closest player and always aims for the head, making the first attack avoidable if they crouch during his charging movement. Due to his history, his priority is to protect Setsuna’s tomb. Players close to it (or those who try to destroy it) will always be targeted first.
  • Phase 2: After ten minutes, Phase 2 begins. Wethermon then summons his mount golem, "Kirin." Players must keep Kirin occupied, or if they merge with Wethermon, things become even more difficult. After another ten minutes, Phase 2 ends.
  • Phase 3: When Phase 3 begins, he continues to try and use Tenki Yohou. As he has become an "undead," he can be interrupted. Wethermon’s armor is destroyed, allowing attacks to cause damage. However, unless the attacks are powerful enough, he will ignore them and attack anyway. In Phase 3, Wethermon starts using new abilities but begins to lose HP every second, reaching zero after about ten minutes if left alone—but this alone won’t defeat him. The fight only ends if all players are alive after Seiten Taisei—the cut-off of Tensei. If one dies due to Tensei and is resurrected, they must start over. If Wethermon loses his blade, his actions are significantly restricted, making the fight much easier. However, winning the fight this way will reduce Setsuna’s affinity for the players, and they will only receive the Inventoria Key as a reward (the Tome of Truth won’t be given).

Abilities

  • Wind Slash [Tachikaze (断風)]: A lethal attack that shatters guard, known to last only one frame (1/60 sec). Players must anticipate its "signal" in advance, but it’s too short to spot at first glance. When executed, Wethermon unsheathes his katana to release a concentrated gust of wind resembling a crescent wind.
  • Nimbus Fist [Nyudo-Gumo (入道雲)]: After charging, he unleashes a "cloud hand" that ravages the area and kills on contact. This attack cannot be blocked and must be dodged—the best spot being behind Wethermon, as it is a frontal attack. It can also be dodged entirely. When executed, he raises his right fist and expels mist to form a giant cloud hand that strikes targets.
  • Thunderclap [Raisho (雷鐘)]: Rains down five deadly lightning bolts per second for five seconds. These target players within a certain range and can group together, potentially wiping out entire teams in one go. This attack must be dodged. When executed, Wethermon grips the handle with both hands above his head, channels blue lightning before swinging downward, followed by lightning strikes falling from the clouds.
  • Export-Summon Call: Tactical Mount Kirin: A summoning move to call forth a mechanical horse. It usually forms a black circle symbol with Japanese writing, and from a flash, the invocation takes form.
  • Tidal Rush [Ohshike (大時化)]: A grabbing move when Wethermon loses his sword. The smash’s damage increases depending on the weight of the target, meaning tanks and heavies take serious damage. The attack comes directly at the target, so dodging isn’t too difficult. This move can also be parried. Wethermon can use this even while wielding his sword. It performs a smash/grab attack with an open hand that leaves aftershock effects.
  • Pyroclastic Wyrm [Kasairyu (火砕龍)]: Used only when Wethermon’s "Focus Attack" is targeted on three or more people. By planting his blade in the ground, he randomly chooses a "Focus Attack" target and summons a pillar of flames, forming long draconic heads rising from the ground where he stands. Dodging isn’t difficult, but it’s usually paired with Hai-Fubuki, and at worst, it can wipe out entire teams.
  • Ash Blizzard [Hai-Fubuki (灰吹雪)]: Used in tandem with Kasairyu, the flames pillars transform into dark smoke in the air, covering a 5-meter radius around where Kasairyu was launched with a suffocating fog. As a suffocating move, it’s much harder to endure than getting hit outright.
  • Tenki Yohou (天鬼夜咆): A wide shockwave released during Phase 3 entry. Wethermon becomes an "undead" in Phase 3, so a high-level purification item or magic can cancel it. It penetrates armor, killing instantly if it fully lands.
  • Clear Sky Conquest [Seiten Taisei (晴天大征)]: A "Berserk Mode" triggered ten minutes into Phase 3. It unleashes a flurry of special moves for 30 seconds, chosen at random. This can potentially leave Wethermon open to attacks—such as if he consecutively performs multiple Tachikaze attacks. "Tensei" triggers after 30 seconds if he has his sword. Activation phrase: "Through the Cycle of Rebirth and a Gift of Separation, I bring the Ultimate End with the Transformation of 'Clear Sky,' I deliver the Final Strike. This can even cleave Dragons..."
(Wa ga kyūkyoku o koena kiganri kono mi wa haieru koto arazu): Without surpassing my excellence, I will never fall. If activated prematurely, all the red and blue aura turns completely black around his body for a moment.
  • Sky Clear [Tensei (天晴)]: Wethermon’s Ultimate Attack. A vertical slash that instantly destroys its target due to its stacked properties, including Instant Death, Armor Penetration, Armor Break, Magical Piercing, and Skill Piercing. This attack cannot be dodged as it is always preceded by immobilization, which disables the target’s leg movement. This attack can only be parried with perfect timing, similar to a critical parry. Because the leg movement is restricted, the target must be in the perfect position beforehand, or they will be disadvantaged. If Tensei isn’t properly countered, the sequence will repeat indefinitely. Successfully countering Tensei wins the fight.

Mount

During Phase 2, Wethermon summons Kirin (騏驎), the Tactical Mechanical Horse, from his hyperspace storage. If left unchecked, the horse will charge across the field, firing missiles and lasers at random. After a certain time, it will attempt to merge with Wethermon. Its weakness is that it constantly tries to throw off anyone who mounts it. The best way to deal with it until Phase 3 is to treat it like a bucking bronco. During Phase 3, Kirin becomes susceptible to damage but possesses more vitality than Wethermon himself.

Kirin has 3 forms:

  • Horse Form: Resembling a futuristic mechanical warhorse, exhaling steam and flailing cables like a tail. In this form, Kirin mostly runs around the field, spewing missiles and lasers. It goes into a "bucking" motion when a player mounts it.
  • Mount Form: In this form, Kirin merges with Wethermon during Phase 2. The head of Kirin transforms into a centaur-like shape, spewing missiles, lasers, and bolts of lightning as it swings its arms. It becomes impervious to damage during this phase.
  • Armor: Kirin takes this form in Phase 3. When its HP drops below 40% and its abdominal armor breaks, it goes into a frenzy and attacks all targets indiscriminately. A strikeable energy core is located behind its laser cannon in the abdomen. If it merges with Wethermon before using Seiten Taisei, the result is massive and nightmarish.

Recommended Group:

The recommended group consists of 6 to 7 players, each required to bring 3 to 4 resurrection items. Wethermon's Striker, if possible, should be tanks with evasion skills or classes with strong evasion-based magic. Kirin’s Striker should be someone with the proper player skills (or the "Cavalier" class), who can mount Kirin without being thrown off. The support should be comprised of players with classes that provide buffs or resurrection magic.

Trivia:

Originally, Wethermon’s stats were even higher, making him nearly impossible to defeat. However, since he is part of the game’s story, Tsukuyo and Ritsu had a disagreement, and Ritsu eventually reduced his stats to balance him.
Wethermon was the first Colossus to be defeated. However, because he was supposed to be defeated later and was meant to be mid-to-end-game content, this caused a bit of panic among the game developers.
