Appearance

Demon Slayer: Will Senjuro become the next Flame Pillar from the Rengoku family

Senjuro has a similar appearance to his brother, Kyojuro Rengoku, and his father, Shinjuro Rengoku, with unruly golden hair that flares out around his face, turning red at the tips above his ears and shoulders, which he wears messily tied behind his head. He has fair skin and large golden eyes tinged with red near the pupils, which slant inward and are shaped to give him a determined yet kind expression.

Senjuro wears a plain white yukata and juban paired with darker hakama trousers. In Kyojuro Rengoku's memory dream aboard the Mugen Train, he was seen wearing a dark haori over his white yukata.

Personality

Senjuro is initially perceived as very sad and shaken by the death of his brother and his father’s verbal abuse. However, after spending time speaking with Tanjiro Kamado, his true personality as a kind and caring individual, who can usually find the best in any situation or person, shines through. He remains hopeful for his future, even though he knows that by not becoming a Demon Slayer, he has broken his family’s ancient tradition. Yet, he believes his elder brother, Kyojuro, would forgive him for leaving such a scar on their family’s history.

History

Past
At one point in his life, Senjuro was set to become Kyojuro’s successor and had trained to become a Demon Slayer. However, due to his lack of proficiency, he eventually gave up on that dream. Instead, he chose to dedicate his life to helping people in other ways.

Legacy

It is assumed that at some point, Senjuro married and had children, as his lineage continues to this day with his direct descendant, Tojuro Rengoku, who exhibits behaviors very similar to his deceased elder brother.

Synopsis

Infinite Train Arc
Senjuro first appears in Kyojuro’s dream, asking if their father was happy upon learning of Kyojuro’s promotion to Flame Hashira. He receives a different response and becomes saddened upon hearing about his father’s mental despair.

Later, Kyojuro gives him encouraging words, reassuring him that things aren’t as bad as they seem and that he should do his best throughout life.

Senjuro reappears after the battle with Enmu, an inferior of the Twelve Kizuki, and Akaza, the Upper Rank Three. He is seen sweeping the entrance outside his house, displaying a saddened expression, while an exhausted and injured Tanjiro arrives at his home hoping to deliver Kyojuro’s last message to his family. Tanjiro calls out to Senjuro and explains why he’s there, but Senjuro, confused, already knows what has happened to his brother. He asks if Tanjiro is okay.

Suddenly, their father, Shinjuro, emerges from his house, yelling that what Tanjiro has come to tell them is unnecessary and belittling. He curses Kyojuro for becoming a Demon Slayer, claiming he always knew it would get him killed. Tanjiro and Senjuro are shocked by his words but remain silent as he continues complaining about how people's fates are predetermined at birth. Kyojuro, however, went and became a Demon Slayer despite not being chosen for it. Hearing these harsh words, tears begin to form in Senjuro’s eyes, but instead of comforting his son, Shinjuro tells him to stop with his “pitiful expression” since the funeral is already over.

Irritated by this cruelty, Tanjiro demands that Shinjuro stop speaking to and about his sons in such a way. This draws Shinjuro’s attention to him, and he angrily tells Tanjiro to leave his property, yelling that he is a Demon Slayer.
Shinjuro, holding a container, smashes it to the ground as he ponders what this could mean. Quickly jumping to conclusions, he angrily asks Tanjiro if he is a user of Sun Breathing. Without waiting for an answer, he swiftly attacks Tanjiro and pins him to the ground. When Senjuro tries to intervene, Shinjuro forcefully slaps him aside. While distracted, Tanjiro lands a blow to Shinjuro’s face, causing him to back away. At last, Tanjiro’s patience runs thin, and he angrily demands to know what Shinjuro is doing—demeaning Kyojuro, who gave up his life—and then striking the only son he has left.

Shinjuro yells back, accusing Tanjiro of mocking him, thinking he is full of himself just because he can use Sun Breathing, the original breathing style. Tanjiro retorts, saying he can never be full of himself because of the violence he’s just experienced. Rushing at Shinjuro, Tanjiro tells him never to speak ill of Kyojuro again.

Senjuro tries to warn Tanjiro that Shinjuro is an ex-Hashira, but driven by so much anger and grief, Tanjiro continues to charge. Shinjuro punches Tanjiro’s face, ignoring his son’s cries of protest, and starts repeatedly hitting Tanjiro’s body until the young Demon Slayer counters with a spiraling headbutt, sending both of them collapsing onto each other.

Later, inside the Rengoku estate, Senjuro brings tea to Tanjiro, and Tanjiro thanks him for his kindness. He also apologizes for knocking Shinjuro down with his headbutt and asks if Shinjuro will be okay, to which Senjuro replies that he believes he will be. Senjuro expresses relief, saying that Tanjiro stood up to his father as he insulted Kyojuro, something Senjuro himself couldn’t bring himself to do. He wonders aloud how his brother’s final moments were, and Tanjiro explains that Kyojuro went out gloriously. Tanjiro apologizes again for not being able to help his brother, but Senjuro assures him not to worry, saying that Kyojuro would have responded the same way.

Senjuro then goes off to find the book Tanjiro requested, returning with a book titled "The Generational Flame Hashira Record," which Tanjiro takes, thanking him. They sit down to open the book, only to discover it has been torn into shreds. Tanjiro asks Senjuro if it was always in such a state, and Senjuro responds that it definitely was not, as it was supposed to have been well preserved. He guesses that his father must have torn it apart, apologizing to Tanjiro, who reassures him not to worry, as it wasn’t his fault.

Senjuro feels deeply disheartened after coming all this way, only to find that the book he sought has been ruined. Yet, Tanjiro reassures him once again, saying that it’s fine, as he can still try to learn more about the technique through training rather than reading. He explains that his body becomes much less mobile when he uses his full concentrated breathing, so he needs to build his endurance to perfect the technique. Because of his regret over his inability to save Kyojuro, Tanjiro declares that he will keep moving forward and strive to become a great Hashira one day, just like Kyojuro once was.

Senjuro is touched by Tanjiro’s words and starts to cry, smiling to himself. He tells Tanjiro that his brother never had a true successor, and he didn’t fulfill the role because he was too weak to even change the color of his Nichirin blade. However, he explains, there are still other ways he can be useful to people. Even though he knows he has broken the legacy of the Flame Hashira, he believes Kyojuro would forgive him. Tanjiro encourages him to follow the path he feels is right and tells him to headbutt anyone who tries to bring him down, to which Senjuro jokingly responds that it might be better if he stops doing that.

As Tanjiro prepares to leave, Senjuro says he will try to restore the Flame Hashira book using other sources and by questioning his father about its contents. If he discovers anything, he’ll send a crow to Tanjiro immediately. He thanks Tanjiro for their conversation and offers him the sheath of Kyojuro’s Nichirin sword, which, after some persuasion, Tanjiro accepts. With this, they bid each other farewell.

Senjuro turns and heads back to his house, finding his father sitting alone. He attempts to talk to Shinjuro about what had happened earlier, but Shinjuro simply tells him to be quiet and leave him alone. With no other choice, Senjuro exits his father’s room, leaving only the message his brother had once given: “Please take care of yourself.”

Capacités et Pouvoirs

Despite coming from a long line of Flame Hashira, Senjuro has never possessed great skill in the art of Demon Slaying. No matter how hard he tried, he couldn't reach the level of swordsmanship necessary to make his Nichirin blade change color, ultimately leading him to give up on following in his brother's footsteps.
