Mitsuha Miyamizu
Mitsuha Miyamizu is the female lead of the acclaimed film "Your Name" (Kimi no Na wa). A 17-year-old high schooler, she resides in the rural village of Itomori and belongs to the Miyamizu family, where she serves as a miko (shrine maiden) at the family shrine. Feeling stifled by small-town life, a strained relationship with her strict father, and the local scrutiny regarding her ritual duties, Mitsuha yearns for a different life as a handsome boy in Tokyo. Her wish is unexpectedly granted when she begins intermittently swapping bodies with Taki Tachibana, a high school boy living in the city, during her sleep.

Appearance
Mitsuha is a teenage girl of average height and build, frequently noted for her striking beauty and resemblance to her late mother, Futaba. She has long, straight black hair that she typically styles in an intricate signature look: two braids on either side gathered into a small ponytail, secured by a hand-woven cord of red, blue, and yellow-orange. She has expressive brown eyes.

After traveling to Tokyo to find Taki, she gives him her braided cord and cuts her hair into a chin-length bob with two strands framing her face. She resumes wearing the cord after retrieving it from Taki during the twilight of "Kataware-doki." In promotional material, a 20-year-old Mitsuha is seen with a bobbed hairstyle accented by the braided cord worn as a headband. As an adult, her hair grows back to her upper back, worn loose with a small section tied in a braid using her signature cord.
During her school years, she was most often seen in her uniform: a white short-sleeved shirt with a pocket and a red collar ribbon, tucked into a gray skirt. She paired this with brown loafers and black socks, adding an orange (and later blue) sweater during colder months.
On the night of the comet, she wore a blue yukata adorned with white flowers and a red obi. By 2016, she is seen in a star-patterned white dress with a yellow cardigan and heels. As an adult, she favors professional yet soft attire, such as a light orange shirt under a pink cardigan, peach-colored cropped jeans, and yellow heels, often accessorized with a necklace and a brown bag.

Mitsuha is a kind-hearted, organized, and supportive individual who possesses a persistent and adventurous spirit. Exhausted by the restrictive nature of Itomori, she initially feels indifferent toward her family's ancient traditions. This makes her body-swapping experience all the more exhilarating; she finds joy in the mundane details of Tokyo life, from café visits to the bustling scenery.
While inhabiting Taki’s body, she is noticeably cheerful and grateful, relishing the urban lifestyle she once only dreamed of. She is known to spend Taki's money on "normal" desserts and takes photos of everything like a tourist. Despite this, she finds Taki's part-time work physically demanding. She remains principled, setting strict rules for Taki regarding her own body—specifically regarding modesty and hygiene. While in Taki, her personality is seen as "girlish" and feminine, often using a polite dialect that surprises his friends.

Her feminine touch while in Taki’s body even wins over his crush, Miki Okudera. Despite helping Taki get closer to her, Mitsuha realizes she has fallen in love with him herself. Her feelings make her slightly irritable and flustered around him, yet she is overcome with joy when they finally meet in person.

Weathering With You (Tenki no Ko)
In the 2021 timeline of *Weathering With You*, Mitsuha appears as a jewelry clerk at a LUMINE store, assisting Hodaka with a ring for Hina. In the novelization, it is implied she and Taki have married by 2024, a fact confirmed by director Makoto Shinkai.
Shinkai has clarified in interviews that the two did indeed marry, solidifying their happy ending regardless of the minor chronological discrepancies between his films.
Powers and Abilities
Soul Swapping
As a descendant of the Miyamizu bloodline, Mitsuha possesses latent spiritual abilities that allow her soul to swap with another. These swaps are triggered by sleep and fueled by her subconscious desire to escape to Tokyo. This phenomenon is limited to her youth and can transcend time and space. The process can be forcibly re-engaged by consuming her *kuchikamizake* (ritual sake). Taki eventually theorizes that this ability was a hereditary safeguard designed to allow Miyamizu women to save the town from the comet’s destruction.
