Makomo - Demon Slayer
Makomo was a former apprentice of Sakonji Urokodaki.

Appearance
Makomo was a small young girl with pale skin, who had soft cyan eyes with rectangular white pupils. She had black hair that reached her shoulders and a short fringe across her forehead.
Makomo wore a red yukata with a pink and white floral pattern, over which she wore a dark purple sleeveless haori and a lighter brown piece of fabric tied around her waist with a pair of sandals similar to those worn by Mitsuri Kanroji, tied around the ankle. Like the other apprentices of Sakonji Urokodaki, she wore a white Conjuration mask, hand-carved by her master himself, shaped like a fox's face, with hers additionally decorated with two blue flowers painted on the left side.

Completely opposing the aggressive personality of Sabito, Makomo was a calm, patient, and kind-hearted girl. She always helped Tanjiro Kamado by pointing out any mistakes in his technique and correcting all his bad habits during his training with Sakonji. Makomo’s favourite phrase was to say that she loved Sakonji very much.
She was also somewhat mysterious, as she always spoke in an abstract and dreamy manner, never giving direct answers to questions about her past.
Makomo and the other spirits of Sakonji’s children entrusted Tanjiro with the task of comforting their adoptive father’s spirit. She and Sabito watched over their loved ones, including Tanjiro, helping to bring peace to their souls.
History
Makomo and Sabito both became orphans after losing their respective families and were adopted by Sakonji, who trained both of them and allowed them to participate in the Final Selection of the Demon Slayer Corps.
During her seven days on Mount Fujikasane, Makomo encountered a powerful transformed demon, who claimed to have eaten many of Sakonji's children. The demon said that he hoped the old man felt responsible, and Makomo, overwhelmed by emotion and losing control of her movements, was quickly torn apart by the demon, joining the ranks of the other children he had already killed.
The souls of Makomo and Sabito returned to Mount Sagiri, as they could not rest due to their failure and Sakonji’s sorrow. Although Makomo had been adopted and died some time before Sabito, they only met in person after her death.

Sakonji gives one final challenge to his new student, Tanjiro, and after a year and a half of training, while Tanjiro still cannot pass Sakonji's final test, Sabito challenges the boy and defeats him using a wooden sword. Sabito then entrusts the boy’s training to Makomo. She tells him that he could be like Sabito one day, that she loves Sakonji very much, and that all of his children are guiding Tanjiro. Makomo then corrects the bad habits in his method and teaches him more about the Breathing techniques. She trains Tanjiro for another six months until he is finally able to defeat Sabito in a duel.
Makomo congratulates Tanjiro and tells him to never forget what he has done. She disappears into the mist, asking him to defeat a certain person. Thanks to Makomo’s guidance, Tanjiro is finally able to cut the rock. Tanjiro enters the Final Selection, and the spirits of Sakonji’s children continue to watch over him. Makomo asks Sabito if he thinks Tanjiro is strong enough to defeat the demon they failed to defeat, to which Sabito only responds that he doesn’t know.
When the fateful battle between Tanjiro and the Main Demon arrives, Makomo fears he will lose as well. Sabito says he cannot predict the outcome, but he reminds Makomo that Tanjiro is the one who split the biggest and hardest rock of all. Tanjiro uses all of his training to defeat the demon. The souls of Sakonji's children appear before Tanjiro, finally able to rest, and Makomo bids Tanjiro farewell, disappearing into the mist one last time.
Skills & Abilities
Although not much is known about her abilities as a candidate Demon Slayer, Makomo was deemed strong enough to gain Sakonji’s permission to participate in the Final Selection. She underwent training and was able to survive until encountering a powerful demon, who, despite claiming that Makomo lacked much power, praised her agility as she was able to avoid most of his attacks.
Water Breathing: Makomo possessed an advanced understanding of the Water Breathing techniques and was capable of teaching Tanjiro how to apply all ten of its forms.

- The name "Makomo" is composed of the kanji for "truth," "completely" (for example, "真っ青" (massao) meaning "completely blue") (真 ma) and "mat, confusion" (菰 komo).
- "Makomo" is also the name of a plant in Japanese, known as "zizanie" or "wild rice."
