Iharu Furuhashi
Iharu Furuhashi is a young officer in the third division of the Defence Forces.
After the destruction of the Tachikawa base, he was transferred to the fourth division.

Appearance
Iharu is a tall, athletic young man with tousled pink hair shaved on the side, orange eyes, and sharp teeth.
In battle, Iharu wears the standard combat suit of the Defence Force, as well as his usual uniform when on duty.
Personality
Iharu is a hot-blooded and proud individual who dislikes being inferior to others or losing, constantly striving to improve himself beyond those he judges stronger than him. For this reason, he has targeted Leno Ichikawa, boasting to him whenever he has the chance. Iharu is described as a stubborn character who brightens every environment he enters.
Despite his seemingly confident attitude, Iharu hides a deep sense of inferiority towards his peers, largely due to his past life of success, which he now compares to his current life in the Defence Force, where most of his colleagues seem to improve faster than him. In fact, when pushed into difficult situations that put his life at risk, Iharu shows a more fragile and unsure side, being aware of his own weaknesses and even admiring someone stronger than him, like Leno himself. Deep down, he values his own team and teammates more than he would openly admit. Nevertheless, he is determined and very stubborn, refusing to give up and facing all obstacles in his path to improve.
History
While still in high school, Iharu was saved from a kaiju by Mina Ashiro. This event later inspires him to join the Defence Force.
During his studies at Hachioji Neutralization Technical College, Iharu was always the top student in his class, achieving the highest scores in every test, excelling in sports, and becoming popular and admired by his classmates. This led him to believe that he could be the best at anything he wanted, developing an overinflated ego. He eventually graduated as the valedictorian.
Arc of the man who became a Kaiju
Iharu participated in the second stage of the Defence Force exam. He finished third in the physical fitness test but had his eyes set on Kikoru Shinomiya, desiring to outmatch her.
For the aptitude test, he managed to wield 14% of the Defence Force’s suit, but during the test, he couldn’t keep up with Kikoru. After the exam ended and the subsequent accident, he and the other candidates were brought to safety. A few days later, he was officially named a member of the Defence Force.
Sagamihara Dawn Neutralization Operation
Two months after undergoing firearms training with the others, Iharu was able to draw out 20% of his suit. He quickly went to boast to Leno about it. That night, he and the other boys were in the bathroom talking about their reasons for joining the Defence Force. When they overheard that Kafka Hibino had a connection to Captain Mina Ashiro, they talked so much about it that they overexerted themselves and fainted. That night, a kaiju appeared, and their first mission began. During the mission, dispatched in Ikaruga’s squad, Iharu was left in awe at Leno’s incredible combat prowess and progress. After the Honju’s death, a large number of Yoju rushed toward the Defence Force, and as Iharu and Leno faced them, they encountered a strange elimination crew member. As the crew member revealed itself to be the kaiju that had previously wounded Kikoru, Leno and Iharu engaged in battle with it. After being injured, Leno instructed Iharu to flee and call for reinforcements. As Iharu fled, the guilt of always being protected—first by Mina Ashiro in his past, and now by Leno—overwhelmed him, and he struggled to improve since Leno had always been surpassing him. Despite his injuries, he returned to save Leno and help him fight the kaiju. As Leno managed to subdue the kaiju, it emerged from a sea of corpses, ready to fight again. Iharu was then incapacitated but did his best to prevent the kaiju from killing Leno. When he realized he had no chance of saving his friend, Iharu prayed for Leno’s life. Just then, Kaiju No. 8 appeared, saving Leno from the humanoid kaiju by decapitating it with a single punch—much to Iharu’s shock. He could only watch as the battle between the kaiju continued until the Defence Force arrived.
After waking up in the hospital two weeks later, Iharu and Leno were discharged and celebrated their first mission with the other Corps members. During the party, he discussed the mission with his peers. As they all talked about the mission, he watched as Soshiro announced Kafka’s promotion to the position of member of the Third Division Defence Force Corps.
Tachikawa Base Raid Arc
During the raid, Iharu and Leno helped the Defence Force handle the Wyvern-type kaiju. He later witnessed Kafka Hibino’s transformation into Kaiju No. 8 to save everyone from a Yoju bomb.
Kaiju No. 8 Captured Arc
After Kafka was detained by the Defence Force, Iharu couldn’t help but be shocked by the news. Later, Mina herself asked him, along with the others, to transfer to a different division, as the Tachikawa base had been largely destroyed. Though reluctant at first, Iharu agreed to show Leno that he wouldn’t lose to him.
At one point, Iharu and Leno were transferred to the Fourth Division.
Kaiju Weapon Arc
After the death of Director-General Isao Shinomiya at the hands of Kaiju No. 9, Iharu and Leno paid their respects alongside the rest of their division.
The Compatible User Arc
When Leno was chosen to become the user of Weapon No. 6, made from the corpse of Kaiju No. 6, Iharu witnessed his compatibility test. One month later, he helped Leno and the rest of the Fourth Division in a test to measure Leno’s capability with the suit. During the battle, Iharu was saved multiple times by Leno, and after lamenting his inability to improve like his peers, he saw Leno begin to abuse his power uncontrollably. At its peak, Leno fought while severely injuring his own body in order to defeat the Honju, freezing an entire area just to avoid outside help. As Captain Jugo Ogata was ready to intervene and declare Leno’s failure, Iharu rushed to his friend, begging his captain to give him another chance. Breaking the ice, he joined Leno and encouraged him to keep going and fight. After carrying Leno to safety and devising a plan, Iharu used his released peak strength to expose the kaiju’s core, giving Leno the chance to finish it off. After successfully completing the mission, Iharu and Leno celebrated and were taken to the infirmary. Sometime later, Iharu called Kafka after he had ignored Leno’s call, and expressed how much he feared Kafka’s kaiju form, even though he still considered him a valuable ally.
Powers and Abilities
General Abilities: Iharu is a strong young officer within the Defence Force, easily standing out as one of the best recruits of his year. Before joining the Defence Force, he was consistently ranked number one in his class, being the strongest among his peers. In combat, Iharu is skilled and determined enough to keep up with people like Leno Ichikawa and provide support even against major threats like Kaiju No. 9. He has even been compared to a division captain of the calibre of Jugo Ogata, due to his innate abilities with his suit.
Powers
High Combat Power: Initially, Iharu was capable of releasing 14% of the power from his combat suit, and then 20% after two months. His current stable released strength is at 24%, allowing him to keep up with Leno and easily shatter large chunks of ice. However, Iharu’s released power reaches remarkable peaks when engaging an enemy, quickly rising from 24% to 42% in just a few seconds, even fluctuating unpredictably in both directions. According to Captain Ogata, who even compared Iharu to himself, Iharu’s released power is comparable to that of Ichikawa, and he has the potential to become a great soldier. Iharu is the third recorded case of Flash Adapter, caused by a unique brain structure that doesn’t allow his released strength to be maintained for long. Instead, he employs a fast, explosive fighting style meant to overwhelm his opponent. He has been trained in combat techniques that force him into a short trance. According to Captain Ogata, if he were to master these techniques, the power generated from his ability to increase in an instant would likely surpass that of Leno Ichikawa. Iharu is now capable of releasing 88% of the suit's power.
Enhanced Strength: Iharu possesses enough physical strength to easily shatter ice and carry his injured teammates on his back over long distances.
Enhanced Speed: During one of his combat power peaks, Iharu is capable of dodging Honju’s attacks.
