Bojji

 

 

Bojji (ボッジ, Bojji) is the main protagonist of Ranking of Kings (Ousama Ranking). He is the crown prince of the Kingdom of Bosse, the son of King Bosse and Queen Sheena, stepson of Queen Hilling, and the elder half-brother of Prince Daida.

Appearance

Bojji is an unusually small teenager with fluffy black hair, black eyes, and rosy cheeks. He bears a strong resemblance to his mother, Queen Sheena.

He typically wears a simple blue tunic, a white belt, white hosiery, and black shoes. Bojji also wears a small crown to signify his status as a prince. His original crown was lost, and he now wears an almost identical cloth version made for him by Kage.

When traveling, Bojji dons a thick green cape and carries a brown satchel over his standard attire.

Personality

Bojji is intelligent, empathetic, and acutely aware of those around him. He is kind to a fault and incredibly generous, even in situations where he might face harm or humiliation.

Due to his deafness, many in the Kingdom of Bosse dismiss Bojji as "dumb" (an outdated term for being mute). However, he is exceptionally hardworking and sincere, qualities that often draw people to him even if they cannot always communicate with him easily.

Plot

Birth and Youth

Before Bojji was born, the Kingdom of Bosse was a small fortified village threatened by a tribe of monsters. Bojji's father, the giant adventurer Bosse, set out to exterminate the monsters while his pregnant wife, the giantess Sheena, stayed behind.

Unfortunately, Bosse was not strong enough to overcome all the monsters alone and appeared defeated. At that moment, Bojji was born, and unbeknownst to almost everyone, a powerful curse took effect. Bosse had made a deal with a demon to steal the strength and power of his firstborn to multiply his own. As a result, Bojji was born exceptionally small, weak, and deaf.

 

Bosse met his son upon returning from his successful hunt and realized the immense cruelty he had committed. Unwilling to admit it, he instead declared an end to his adventures and founded a kingdom at his son's birthplace.

For her part, Queen Sheena seemed indifferent to Bojji's size and disabilities, adoring her son unconditionally. Unfortunately, this happiness was short-lived. Bosse's shadowy ally, Miranjo, had other plans for the kingdom and organized a coup with an army of mercenaries. While the coup failed, Sheena was killed protecting Bojji from a rain of arrows. Miranjo was also killed in the conflict but transferred her consciousness into the mysterious Magic Mirror.

Bojji and Bosse fell into deep grief. Bosse initially intended to rule alone, but Miranjo used her influence to force him to remarry.

Bosse's second wife, the young cleric Hilling, was delighted to be Bojji's stepmother and spent months winning the young prince's trust. During this time, she gave birth to Daida.

Though Hilling loved both sons, she became overprotective of Bojji and strict with Daida, demanding he become strong enough to defend his brother. This created an unintentional rift between the siblings.

Bojji never forgot Sheena and regularly visited her memorial. There, he met the guard Hokuro, who was mourning his own deaf mother. Bojji’s kindness left a lasting impression on him.

Death of the King

Excluded from court life due to his disabilities, Bojji became a reserved young man who spent his time in the outskirts of the kingdom. One day, he met Kage, a young thief from the Shadow Clan. Delighted to have a "friend," Bojji didn't realize Kage was repeatedly stealing from him, returning daily to give Kage his own royal clothes.

Kage eventually followed Bojji home and learned of his tragic situation. Having had a difficult life himself, Kage decided to become Bojji's true friend. However, Kage soon disappeared, captured by the spymaster Bebin.

Bosse's deal with the demon had sacrificed part of his lifespan, and he soon succumbed to illness. Though his will named Bojji as successor, the council—urged by Hilling—voted to crown Daida instead, unknowingly playing into Miranjo's hands.

Bojji was heartbroken and tried to flee. Realizing her overbearing nature, Hilling allowed Bojji to travel, hoping for his happiness. However, a manipulated King Daida ordered Bojji's assassination. His bodyguard, the swordmaster Domas, pushed Bojji toward his apparent death at the Gates of Hell, a massive fiery pit.

The Underworld

Fortunately, Bojji was saved by Kage, who had been recruited by Bebin to act as a secret protector. The two discovered a staircase leading to the entrance of the Underworld.

 

Meanwhile, Miranjo reincarnated Bosse into Daida's body. Bosse reluctantly participated in her plans but made small gestures of resistance. After meeting King Desha of the Underworld, Bojji and Kage sought a tutor who could make Bojji strong. This was Prince Despa, who used his magical insight to discover Bojji’s latent talents. Despa trained Bojji to use agility to compensate for his lack of strength, eventually making him one of the strongest warriors in the world.

The Kingdom of Bosse Coup

As Bojji finished his training, Miranjo freed six dangerous prisoners—Zokku, Gigan, Black, Red, Kingbo, and Ouken—to take over the castle. Queen Hilling and her guards fought a bloody battle to hold them back until Bojji and Kage arrived. Bojji quickly neutralized most of the prisoners and won Gigan's loyalty.

Bojji then faced the immortal madman Ouken. Despite Bojji's precision, Ouken’s regeneration made him nearly impossible to defeat. The reincarnated Bosse eventually joined the fight, using his titanic strength to crush Ouken into a rock. After an emotional reckoning with Miranjo and the demon, the coup ended, Daida was restored, and Bosse passed into the afterlife.

Aftermath and New Adventure

Bojji succeeded Bosse as king, but Kage quietly left, believing Bojji no longer needed him. Heartbroken, Bojji realized he couldn't rule without his friend. With Hilling's blessing, he gave the crown to Daida and caught up with Kage. Now, they travel the world together with the goal of founding their own kingdom!

Relationships

Kage

Kage is Bojji's best friend. They share a deep bond, allowing Kage to understand Bojji even without sign language. Kage is fiercely loyal and often acts as the "street-smart" protector for his generous friend.

 

Sheena

Bojji deeply misses his biological mother. Sheena loved him unconditionally and never saw his disability as a weakness, a sentiment Bojji carries with him at her memorial.

Hilling

Though she can be overprotective and stern, Bojji loves and trusts Hilling. She is genuinely proud of his growth and cares for him as if he were her own biological son.

Daida

Despite Daida's initial resentment, Bojji only ever showed him affection. After being trapped in his own body and maturing through the ordeal, Daida apologized for his past behavior and now deeply respects his brother's courage.

Despa

Despa is Bojji's mentor. Bojji admires him greatly, while Despa is charmed by Bojji's sincerity and takes pride in his pupil's progress.

Domas

Their relationship was strained by Bojji's lack of progress and Domas's betrayal. However, the new, stronger Bojji has forgiven Domas, who now struggles to redeem himself for his past actions.

Bosse

Bosse kept Bojji at a distance but ultimately loved him, founding a kingdom specifically to provide a safe future for his son despite the curse he placed upon him.

 

Capabilities

Cursed Body

Bojji's lack of strength is due to a powerful curse. However, this curse is so strong it repels other magical effects, such as the poisonous mists of the Underworld. Despa noted that Bojji's physical strength cannot be increased because there is essentially nothing there to build upon.

Giant Heritage

As the son of two giants, Bojji possesses traits of the giant race, most notably a complete immunity to all types of poison.

Incredible Speed and Reflexes

Bojji’s agility was untouched by the curse. Training with the snake Mitsumata made him incredibly fast—so fast he can dodge Ouken's lightning-quick attacks.

Hyper Focus and Lip Reading

Bojji has exceptional situational awareness. He can read lips perfectly, allowing him to understand anyone as long as he can see their mouth—including non-human ones like Kage's.

Sword Mastery

Bojji uses a specialized rapier. Under Despa’s guidance, he learned to target anatomical weak points with surgical precision. He can neutralize enemies without drawing blood and even destroy weapons with a single, precise strike.

This fencing style makes him one of the most dangerous warriors alive.

Intimidating Presence

Bojji’s skill is now so immense that seasoned warriors like Apeas and Zokku are visibly intimidated by his aura. Even Ouken hesitated when facing him.
