Attack on Titan: The 10 Best Quotes by Hange Zoe!
Share
Contrary to the other members of the Survey Corps, Hange did not hate the Titans and instead wanted to learn more about them. Their quotes stand out, just like they do.
Hange Zoë remains one of the most interesting and well-written characters in Attack on Titan. Unlike the other members of the Survey Corps, Hange does not despise the Titans and strives to learn more about them, hinting at humanity’s connection to these monstrosities from the very beginning of Attack on Titan. As Eren Jaeger and the 104th cadet corps progress, Hange becomes more important in their efforts, eventually taking on the role of commander of the Survey Corps.
Hange is accessible in a way that few characters in Attack on Titan are, largely due to their affable personality and nerd-like obsession with Titan physiology. Throughout their time in the series, they deliver many memorable quotes, some of which perfectly capture the overwhelming struggle of their people.

10/ "It was my decision."
After the Survey Corps captured Reiner, Jean Kirstein convinces Hange Zoë not to kill him so they can take the powers of the Armoured Titan. However, before they can, two Titans – later revealed to be Zeke Jaeger and Pieck Finger – emerge and rescue their comrade. At first, Jean blames himself for this failure, but Hange quickly makes it clear that it is not his fault. They take full responsibility for this failure, thus showing their worth as the next commander of the Survey Corps.
9/ "Do you know exactly why we, in the Survey Corps, have shed our blood?"
During the battle against the Female Titan, Hange and other members of the Survey Corps discover that the walls protecting them are made of Colossal Titans. Minister Nick knew this from the beginning and never revealed it due to his religious beliefs. Hange Zoë desperately tries to convince Nick to tell them everything he knows. Though he remains silent for a long time, he eventually admits that Historia is the true princess of Paradis. Without Hange's interrogation, Nick would likely have taken this secret to his grave.
8/ "Now, we can defeat the Titans without even needing the soldiers to fight them!"

When the members of Levi’s Squad discuss how Eren might use his powers to seal Wall Maria, the Attack Titan makes it clear that it will do everything in its power to help. Part of its efforts leads to one of Hange Zoë's proudest creations: the Titan Guillotine. Hange is always the one leading experiments and creating inventions, making their presence an essential part of the 104th cadet corps' efforts to retake Wall Maria. When Zoë finally uses the Titan Guillotine, the ensuing triumph is well-deserved.
7/ "He is nothing more than an innocent man who simply refuses to die."
Levi Ackerman and Zeke Jaeger maintain the most controversial rivalry throughout Attack on Titan, and in one of their battles, Levi comes extremely close to death. Fortunately for him, Hange Zoë finds their Survey Corps companion and saves him from the brink of death. Since Levi is still too injured to move, Hange helps him travel by building a makeshift bed and tying it to a horse. Eventually, they encounter Pieck Finger and other members of the Marleyan Empire. There, Hange delivers a line that perfectly sums up Levi's stubborn refusal to die.
6/ "Defeat is all the Survey Corps has ever known!"
After the death of Flegel's father, he befriends Hange because they share a common enemy. He explains how Kenny Ackerman killed his father and kidnapped Eren and Historia, admitting that he had lost all hope and expected the military police to kill him. Hange has a kind heart and an optimistic perspective, and they emphasize that, even though the Survey Corps has faced defeat after defeat, they are closer than ever to changing the world within the walls for the better. Flegel seems to take these words to heart and proves to be a valuable asset in the fight against Ackerman.
5/ "The world needs Paradis to be the root of all evil..."

The Eldians used Titans to conquer and control the rest of the world. After the Great Titan War, many of them lost their memories and became trapped on the island of Paradis, unaware of their lineage for over a century. Eventually, the Survey Corps learns the truth and wishes to form alliances with other nations. The only nation that accepts the Eldians as they are is Hizuru, a fictional representation of Japan. However, Hange Zoë is perceptive enough to see through Hizuru’s opportunistic scheme, recognizing that the country is no different from the others in its disdain for Paradis.
4/ "You might have had some sort of just cause in mind when you did this."
Even though it takes time, Hange Zoë and Minister Nick eventually become close friends. Their very different paths are both built on their determination and commitment to their respective causes – a common trait that ultimately helps the two men understand each other. After members of the military police brigade assassinate Nick, Hange confronts them. The military police refuse to admit any wrongdoing, so Hange instead delivers a cold, calculated warning to the one who carried out the act.
3/ "You trusted us, and we've lost our trust in you."

After learning the truth about the world in which he lives, Eren Jaeger decides to find his brother Zeke and go to Marley. When he is ready to return home with Zeke Jaeger, the Survey Corps fights against Marley’s Warrior unit, which deepens the world’s hatred toward them in the process. On the airship they use to escape Marley, Hange Zoë and Levi Ackerman confront Eren, who had essentially acted as a rogue during his time behind enemy lines. Zoë points out that Eren has backed them into a corner with his actions, and their trust in him for the future is gravely compromised.
2/ "Since I joined the Survey Corps, every day brings me a new goodbye..."
When Armin Arlert and Erwin Smith were on the brink of death, the Survey Corps had to make a decision: they could save Armin, who was a close friend to most of the surviving soldiers and one of the smartest people in Paradis, or they could save Erwin, the greatest commander the Survey Corps had ever known. Hange Zoë wants to save Erwin, while Eren and Mikasa plead with their superior to save Armin. Zoë reminds them that every member of the Survey Corps must be prepared to lose their allies. Though the group ultimately saves Armin, Hange’s words still ring true.
1/ "I kept moving forward, even if it meant killing many of my comrades."
After Eren’s goal of destroying Paradis’ enemies became a reality, the protagonists of Attack on Titan must devise a plan to stop him. In an effort to halt the Rumbling, Hange Zoë sacrifices themselves in the hope of giving Paradis' remaining allies the time to escape from the imminent Titan assault. Hange's actions as commander of the Survey Corps place the group in many unenviable situations, something Zoë acknowledges in their final moments. However, Hange’s courage and willingness to face death head-on are more than commendable, solidifying their character as one of the greatest leaders in all of Attack on Titan.
