Appearance
Ashborn manifested as an imposing and powerfully built shadow combatant, featuring violet locks, incandescent eyes, dual curved obsidian horns, and razor-sharp talons. He donned pitch-black armor plating, an extensive smoky ebony cloak, and brandished a blade forged from pure darkness.
In his sovereign manifestation, Ashborn presented as a formidable alabaster knight bearing expansive ivory wings, elongated silver tresses, and luminous white irises. He additionally wore silver vestments, pale beige protective plating, and a blue-gray mantle, wielding an ivory blade featuring a light beige guard and an ash-toned grip.
Personality
Ashborn possessed profound reverence for existence and maintained a compassionate perspective toward humankind. He additionally nurtured an intense longing for tranquility and grew exhausted from the perpetual conflict between the Monarchs and the Rulers, which motivated him to entrust his aspirations and capabilities to a mortal in hopes of terminating the bloodshed definitively. Nevertheless, he remained unquestioningly devoted to the Absolute Being and persisted in fighting for him, despite discovering the truth regarding his existence.
History
Eons past, Ashborn battled alongside his fellow Rulers in a catastrophic conflict against the Monarchs at their deity's command, the Absolute Being. When his Ruler compatriots rebelled against the Absolute Being—who had exploited them as instruments for his personal entertainment—Ashborn stood as the sole loyalist to their maker and endeavored to halt them. Nevertheless, despite his exertions, they effortlessly vanquished him and abandoned him mortally wounded.
With his injuries proving terminal, Ashborn accepted his approaching demise and readied himself for death. Yet, before mortality could claim him, he uncovered that the Absolute Being had concealed a tremendous power within his form. He triggered it without delay, metamorphosing into the Shadow Monarch. His vitality replenished and prowess dramatically enhanced, Ashborn rejoined the conflict to persist in combat. Though upon his reappearance, he comprehended his tardiness—the insurrection had concluded, and the Absolute Being had perished.

Following Legia's seizure by the Rulers, Ashborn recognized that the Monarchs faced inevitable defeat unless he intervened and resolved to extend his assistance—a proposition they grudgingly embraced. Regrettably for Ashborn, though he succeeded in stabilizing the power equilibrium and extending the war, his overpowering might generated trepidation in both factions. Ultimately, two among the nine Monarchs, Rakan and Baran, betrayed him. Though Ashborn readily defeated them in confrontation and eliminated Baran as retribution for his treachery, his shadow forces suffered near-complete annihilation throughout the campaign.
Immediately following Baran's elimination, the Rulers materialized before Ashborn and pleaded for clemency. Though Ashborn initially spurned their reconciliation attempt and furiously demanded they execute him to finally conclude the conflict, the Rulers maintained their entreaty. Inundated by sentiment, Ashborn proved incapable of responding. Pursuing vengeance against Rakan, Ashborn departed the battlefield and concealed himself to reconstruct his shadow forces, thereby enabling the Rulers to overcome the Monarchs and compel them into concealment. Nevertheless, shortly thereafter, Ashborn returned to the Monarchs, and Antares—the paramount among them—welcomed him enthusiastically back into their coalition, as two of their number had fallen and the remainder sustained severe debilitation from their defeat by the Rulers.
Centuries subsequently, when the Monarchs initiated their offensive on the mortal realm, Ashborn accompanied them, pursuing his position in the cosmos, as he had never authentically belonged to the chaotic dimension. Concurrently, he commenced seeking an appropriate human receptacle with a sorcerer named Kandiaru's aid, who consented to assist him in return for eternal life and developed a specialized program engineered for this objective.
While Kandiaru pursued a mortal possessing the corporeal and psychological attributes necessary to function as a receptacle for the Shadow Monarch, Ashborn observed that one individual had surpassed the program's limitations Kandiaru had engineered and contradicted all its regulations and projections: Sung Jinwoo. Notwithstanding his pitiful frailty and impending mortality, Jinwoo consistently succeeded in surviving. The resolve he demonstrated by jeopardizing his existence repeatedly for his kinfolk impressed Ashborn so profoundly that he ultimately concluded Jinwoo merited becoming his receptacle.
D-Rank Dungeon Arc
Notwithstanding Kandiaru's disapproval of his choice, Ashborn selected Jinwoo as his host several months preceding the Monarchs' scheduled commencement of pursuing the human realm's sovereigns. He gradually initiated converting Jinwoo into a receptacle sufficiently robust to completely assimilate his capabilities through the System.
Double Dungeon Arc
Upon Jinwoo attaining level 100, Kandiaru summoned him back to the Double Dungeon so Ashborn could assume dominion over him and establish him as his receptacle. Nevertheless, Kandiaru remained oblivious that Ashborn no longer planned to possess Jinwoo, but instead desired to transfer his capabilities to him so Jinwoo could inherit his position as the subsequent Shadow Monarch. Ashborn opted to betray Kandiaru by eliminating him from the System, nullifying their compact, and bestowing Jinwoo his obsidian heart. This permitted Jinwoo to recapture dominion of his form and terminate Kandiaru following the latter's realization that Ashborn had betrayed him and aligned with the Rulers.
Monarch War Arc
When Jinwoo suffered defeat in confrontation by Rakan, he was seemingly transported temporally backward to the moment when the System initially designated him as a Player. Since he preserved his appearance and capabilities, Jinwoo initially perceived the experience as authentic. Nevertheless, following discourse with an alternate manifestation of Go Gunhee, he ultimately comprehended that everything surrounding him constituted an illusion. Enraged, he demanded the spellcaster cease squandering time and unveil himself. To his considerable astonishment, the orchestrator proved to be Ashborn.
Opting against wasting time, Ashborn presented himself to Jinwoo and clarified everything he required understanding—encompassing his personal chronicle, their adversaries' genuine identities, and the rationale Jinwoo had been designated as both his receptacle and heir. Upon completion, Ashborn presented Jinwoo dual alternatives: exist eternally within his fabricated reality, or return and finalize the confrontation against the Monarchs. Predictably, Jinwoo selected the latter alternative, and Ashborn bid him farewell before he returned to actuality and reclaimed the authentic capabilities of the Shadow Monarch.
Academy Arc
Following enlightenment from his spouse, Cha Hae-In, that their offspring Suho experienced ostracism by his educational institution peers stemming from his developing mystical capabilities, Jinwoo contemplated extensively and recognized that the Absolute Being had originally bestowed Ashborn the Shadow Monarch's capabilities as a mechanism to obliterate his creations—should they revolt against him.
