Aoi Kanzaki
Aoi Kanzaki is a supporting character in Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba and a Demon Slayer of the Demon Slayer Corps. However, she works as an assistant at the Butterfly Mansion rather than heading to the front lines to fight demons.

Appearance
Aoi is a young girl of medium height, with deep blue eyes that fade into a lighter blue at the bottom, as well as white rectangular pupils. She has straight black hair with a parted fringe and twin tails. She wears two blue butterfly clips to keep her twin tails in place.
She wears the standard Demon Slayer uniform with the addition of a white nurse’s robe over it, tied with a blue belt around her waist. Her uniform is slightly tinged with blue. She is often seen with a frowning expression.

Aoi is tough, uncompromising, strict, and serious, displaying an efficient and pragmatic attitude almost all the time. In her duties at the Butterfly Mansion, she is effective and proactive, as evident when she swiftly tells a complaining Zenitsu to be quiet and take his medicine. Aoi even goes so far as to demand that he not complain to her if he doesn’t recover, despite Zenitsu’s reluctance due to the medicine’s unpleasant taste.
Her personality is somewhat similar to that of a young Shinobu Kocho, being loud, volatile, and outspoken. She often appears angry, usually making her feelings very clear. However, she sometimes expresses more tender emotions, such as declaring her happiness about the time spent with the trio while they were at the mansion, appearing openly surprised by Tanjiro’s comfort towards her, and breaking into tears while discussing Inosuke’s severe injuries.
Despite her somewhat gruff demeanour, she is kind and caring, doing her best to help the Demon Slayers who come to the mansion for rehabilitation. Aoi also harbours some insecurity about her inability to be an effective Demon Slayer, stating that her survival in the Final Selection was due to luck and considering herself a coward for failing to fight in battle.
Abilities
As someone who passed the Final Selection, Aoi has above-average combat abilities and physical capabilities compared to the average person. However, she is not on par with Demon Slayers such as Tanjiro Kamado, Zenitsu Agatsuma, and Inosuke Hashibira, as she does not spend time training to fight demons or going on missions. Instead, she chooses to be an assistant at the Butterfly Mansion, helping injured Demon Slayers recover.
Medical Knowledge: After training under Shinobu Kocho, Aoi is capable of concocting most simple medicines and using them to treat injured patients.
Skilled Craftsmanship: Aoi is skilled and competent enough to repair Nezuko’s box after it was damaged by Sanemi’s blade.
Fighting Style
Water Breathing: Aoi used Water Breathing when she passed the Final Selection. Despite surviving the Final Selection, she believed it was purely by luck and decided to stop training with Water Breathing, choosing instead to assist other Demon Slayers at the Butterfly Mansion.
Trivia
- "Aoi" (アオイ, Aoi?) can have various meanings depending on the kanji used. For example, her name could translate to "hollyhock" (葵, あおい, aoi?) or "blue" (青, あおい, aoi?).
- However, her name is written using three katakana characters, which do not carry any semantic properties. Since her character design revolves around the colour blue, it can be presumed that she symbolises blue in nature.
- Aoi’s family name, Kanzaki, contains the Kun’yomi reading of the kanji for "deity, spirit" (神, かん, kan?) and "cape, peninsula" (崎, さき, saki?), the latter being affected by rendaku.
- Aoi seems to have low self-esteem, as evidenced by her dismissal of her survival during the Final Selection.
- She was also in the same Final Selection as the Mist Hashira, Muichiro Tokito.

- Aoi’s uniform was originally designed to have an open chest, similar to Mitsuri Kanroji’s uniform, and the same applied to Kanao and Shinobu. Later, she burned that uniform using the oil and matches Shinobu gave her, along with Kanao’s.
- Aoi ranked 24th in the first character popularity poll, with 103 votes.
- Aoi wanted a sister, so she fiercely pestered Kanao Tsuyuri to adopt her surname.
- Aoba shares the Hepburn romaji spelling of the first part of their name with Aoi (however, the "ao" in "Aoi" and the "ao" in "Aoba" are written using different character scripts). Since Sumihiko Kamado, Kanata Kamado, Toko Agatsuma, and Yoshiteru Agatsuma share part of their names with their ancestors, the same applies to Aoba.
- Due to Aoba’s name containing the character for "blue, azure" (青, あお, ao?), it directly confirms that Aoi’s name refers to the colour blue.
- Aoba works in the field of science, much like Shinobu did at the Butterfly Mansion, where Aoi lived. Aoba has jet-black hair rather than hair that transitions from black to blue like Inosuke’s, resembling Aoi’s hair instead.
- Aoi was partially responsible for Kanao’s name. During Kanao’s name selection, Shinobu and Kanae placed various names on the ground, allowing Kanao to pick one at random. When Aoi saw that Kanao was about to pick a paper with the name "Kamasu" (カマス, Kamasu?), she quickly swapped it with the paper containing "Kanao."
- At Kimetsu Academy, Aoi is a second-year student in the Persimmon Class and a member of the Flower Arrangement Club. She also volunteers in the school’s cafeteria. Her parents own the Aozora Diner, where she often helps out. However, a girl with a large appetite recently started visiting, causing her significant trouble.
