Driven by the hope of reuniting his family, a young Reiner wholeheartedly embraced Marley's propaganda. Like many in Marley, he was conditioned to believe that the inhabitants of Paradis were "demons" destined to destroy them. Reiner’s desperation to be a hero and earn his mother’s pride fueled his resolve to commit horrific acts, only to be shattered by the realization that the people he was killing were no different from himself.
2/ "My sins are irretrievable. I doubt I will ever forgive myself for what I have done, even if I manage to save what is left of humanity. So, well, let's at least save the rest of humanity."

When Reiner finally allied with the remains of the Survey Corps, he was able to voice the guilt that had been consuming him. After Connie was forced to kill his former comrades Daz and Samuel, he finally understood the weight of the betrayal Reiner had carried. These words, spoken as they set out to stop Eren’s Rumbling, highlight Reiner's transition from a brainwashed soldier to a man seeking redemption, even if he believes himself beyond forgiveness.
1/ "I don't know what's right anymore, but I know I have to face the consequences of my actions and fulfill my duty as a warrior to the end."
Struggling with a fractured psyche and the blurred lines between his "soldier" persona and "warrior" identity, Reiner abruptly confessed his true nature to Eren.
