Monkey D. Dragon
Share
Dragon, whose full name is Monkey D. Dragon and nicknamed "The Revolutionary", is the father of Monkey D. Luffy and the son of Monkey D. Garp. He is the famous leader of the Revolutionaries, who are attempting to overthrow the World Government. As such, he is the greatest enemy of its leaders.
He was once a member of the Navy.

Appearance
He is often seen wearing a khaki raincoat, and recently he has been seen wearing the Revolutionary Army uniform. He has a red tribal tattoo on the left side of his face, from his forehead to his jaw, and sports messy black hair similar to Luffy's (but longer). He is often seen with a sinister smile on his face. At the execution of Gol D. Roger, 22 years ago, he did not have his tribal face tattoo. However, it is interesting to note that in all the photos of him, he wears a broad smile and a psychopathic look. This is likely due to the World Government's attempt to portray him as a dangerous madman. He is often seen wearing a hood. He is a tall man, and although his exact age is unknown, given that he is Luffy's father, he must be around forty years old.

Personality
Dragon's personality is largely unknown due to the many mysteries surrounding him, with the exception of an obvious love for freedom and a belief in destiny—traits common to a bearer of the "D". Despite this, he is very serious about his crusade, warning his subordinates that the conflict against the World Government will be long, difficult, and fraught with challenges.
Unlike other members of his family or other bearers of the "D", he has a stern and serious demeanor. However, he is often seen with a confident smile on his face.
Determined to keep the flame of the Revolution alive, he also seems to care about the innocent (probably because of witnessing the oppression of the World Government towards them), as evidenced by the scene where he intentionally saves the inhabitants of Grey Terminal and later offers them a position in the Revolutionary Army.
He apparently does not like being asked anything about his past, or even to talk about it at all. He also has a strange habit of always turning and looking in the direction of East Blue when the wind changes direction. His revolutionary comrade, Emporio Ivankov, attributes this habit to Dragon's paternal instinct... since he left Luffy in East Blue. He is described as "charismatic" by Brook. He advocates sincerity and discipline above all in his army; his goal is peace, and he views war only as a means to achieve it, not something to be celebrated.

Relations
Family
Monkey D. Garp
Dragon is the son of the famous Vice Admiral Monkey D. Garp. No direct interaction between the two has been observed. However, Garp was "a bit too" relaxed when telling Luffy about Dragon's criminal status, even going so far as to pick his nose while saying it. He even laughed when he realised he shouldn’t have revealed such information in front of everyone. There seems to be some sort of understanding between the two. Garp stated that the reason Dragon was in Loguetown was to see Luffy set off for the Grand Line. But in the end, Dragon had to save Luffy from Smoker’s attack.
Monkey D. Luffy
Monkey D. Luffy is the son of Monkey D. Dragon. Like his father and his grandfather, Monkey D. Garp, Dragon seems to have high expectations for Luffy. And although he has yet to introduce himself to Luffy, Dragon appears to support his son's actions to this day. He appeared in Loguetown to see Luffy set off for the Grand Line and to prevent Smoker from capturing him, showing that he does care somewhat about his son's well-being (perhaps in an effort to make Luffy more mature). Dragon also seems to be very proud of his son because of all the trouble he has caused the World Government. His unusual habit of standing in the wind and facing East Blue (where he left Luffy) apparently means that he misses his son. When he was informed of Luffy’s second intrusion into Marineford, he decided to focus on his own goals, believing that Luffy was old enough (in his opinion) to take care of himself. However, he doesn't seem to be trying to make him a Revolutionary, letting him follow his own path.

Others
No mother or wife (if he has ever been married) has been named for Dragon. However, both have been left as "?" in the supplement issue of The Grand Line Times, and he must have had a relationship with Luffy's mother. As a bearer of the Will of D, he may also be connected to other D's. It is unknown whether, before Sengoku made the information public to the world, Dragon knew that Portgas D. Ace was the son of Gol D. Roger, or if he was aware of Ace's adoption into the family (although his subordinate Kuma did not know). However, Ace was aware that Dragon was Luffy's father (before it was announced to the entire world by Sengoku).
Vegapunk
Dragon has a cordial relationship with Vegapunk, the Revolutionary. Although Vegapunk shares Dragon’s disdain for the corruption of the World Government, he did not join the Revolutionary Army when Dragon invited him, as he considered the army to be poor. In any case, both shared their respect for Clover and worked to ensure that the death of the famous archaeologist would not be in vain.
Skills and Abilities
He is the leader of the Revolutionaries and has full command of the organization. For now, almost nothing is known about the extent of his abilities. However, there are a few clues that suggest Dragon is an incredibly powerful individual, as the World Government considers him to be "The Most Wanted Man in the World". He is also seen in the episode where he saves Luffy from Smoker, with Smoker not even attempting to stop him. The World Government fears the possibility of being at war with him at the same time as Whitebeard. He is therefore a terrifying threat, and he has formidable subordinates such as Emporio Ivankov, Sabo, Bartholomew Kuma, and Inazuma, who, in comparison, are less powerful than him. This implies Dragon's true power. When Sengoku reveals to everyone the connection between him and Luffy, everyone is shocked, including Gecko Moria, a member of the Seven Warlords of the Sea, and the members of Whitebeard's crew.

Moreover, with each of Dragon's public appearances, the weather, wind, or storms are altered in some way. The rain during Whitebeard's execution, the fire at Grey Terminal dying down with a gust of wind at Goa, and the gusts of wind in Loguetown are some examples, though it remains unclear if Dragon is the cause of these phenomena.
History
Past
Dragon was born in the Kingdom of Goa. He founded the Revolutionary Army between 19 and 24 years before the current events. One by one, countries slowly began to support him, though sometimes this phase of understanding was marked by war. He witnessed the execution of Gol D. Roger, but did not yet have his tattoo at that time.
At some point, Dragon was the captain of the Freedom Fighters, a small, poor military organisation. He eventually met the scientist Vegapunk and asked him to join his group, but Vegapunk refused because their lack of resources prevented them from building anything.
Twenty-two years ago, a few months after the Ohara incident, Dragon visited the ruined island to pay tribute to the victims of the massacre. He spoke with Vegapunk, who was there for the same reason, and vowed to create an army capable of fighting back and preventing disasters like Ohara from happening again. That same year, Dragon, Emporio Ivankov, and Bartholomew Kuma founded the Revolutionary Army. At this stage, Dragon had not yet acquired his facial tattoo.
Over time, his ideals slowly spread across the world, and one by one, countries began to support him, though sometimes through conflict, leading to the fall of many nations. Ultimately, Dragon would be considered the world's most wanted criminal.
Twelve years before the current events, Dragon returned to his home in the Goa Kingdom and witnessed the fire at Grey Terminal. After seeing the suffering of his own people, Sabo, who was also present, asked for help and expressed his shame and disdain for his heritage. Dragon devised a plan to save the people and embarrassed the government by creating a dam that allowed those from the Garbage Mountain to escape and join his ranks. Due to his actions, the nobles noticed that the burnt remains of the mountain's combustion were much lower than expected.
While Sabo set off on his pirate adventure, a Celestial Dragon destroyed his ship, and Dragon found him, injured and amnesiac.

The Revolutionary Army
Sabo
He has known Sabo for several years (they met during the Grey Terminal incident). He was deeply moved by what Sabo had to endure at such a young age. If Sabo is the second most important person in the revolutionaries, it is because Dragon must have a lot of trust and regard for him. It is unknown whether Dragon was aware of the fraternal bond between his son and Sabo before the information became public.
Emporio Ivankov
Emporio Ivankov is one of Dragon's companions and one of the commanders of his Revolutionary Army. Ivankov has deciphered Dragon's habit of gazing towards East Blue, as if he were nostalgic for the country. However, Ivankov had no knowledge of Dragon's family until he met Luffy a few years later, which led him to protect him at all costs during his time in Impel Down and during the Battle of Marineford. It is still unknown how Dragon met Ivankov.

Bartholomew Kuma
Bartholomew Kuma was once a member of Dragon's crew and the Revolutionary Army, as shown in a flashback where Dragon saved the inhabitants of Grey Terminal in the Kingdom of Goa. His relationship with Dragon remains a mystery, but he knows that Luffy is Dragon's son, a fact that even Ivankov didn't know until he met the young boy. Although Kuma worked with the Revolutionary Army in secret, his final transformation into a full Pacifista now makes him completely under the control of the World Government, but Dragon is apparently fully aware of Kuma's situation with the Marines and the World Government.
Koala and Hack
He is their superior, as he is to all the revolutionaries.
Other Revolutionaries
The other revolutionaries were relieved to discover that their mysterious leader is actually a "human" when they heard that he was Luffy's father and Garp's son.
Enemies
As an outlaw (revolutionary), he is actively pursued.
