Kei Tsukishima
Kei Tsukishima is a first-year student at Karasuno High School and a vital Middle Blocker for the Volleyball Club. Known for his analytical mind and sarcastic wit, he frequently teases Hinata about his height and takes pleasure in riiling up Kageyama by using his dreaded middle school nickname, "The King of the Court."

Appearance
Tsukishima is exceptionally tall for a high schooler, providing him a significant advantage at the net. He has short, messy blond hair and sharp golden-brown eyes, usually accompanied by a cool, distant expression. He wears the classic black-and-orange Karasuno uniform with the number 11. Notably, he is the only player on the team who wears glasses; later in the manga (Chapter 109), he switches to specialized prescription sports goggles to better suit his high-intensity matches.
Personality
Tsukishima is blunt, cynical, and has a knack for getting under people's skin—especially Hinata, Kageyama, and even his upperclassmen, Tanaka and Nishinoya. He tends to dislike "hot-blooded" people who act on pure emotion. While he maintains a baseline of respect for Daichi, Sugawara, and Asahi, he often acts irritated by his teammates' antics. The only person he truly lets his guard down around is Tadashi Yamaguchi, though even then, his "salty" personality remains front and center.
History
Childhood & The Loss of Passion
In his younger years, Tsukishima was much more cheerful and idolized his older brother, Akiteru. He began playing volleyball purely out of admiration for his brother's success. However, everything changed when he discovered that Akiteru, despite his hard work, wasn't even a regular on the Karasuno team—instead, he was cheering from the stands while the "Little Giant" played. This revelation caused Tsukishima to view volleyball as "just a club activity," believing that putting in too much effort only leads to disappointment. During this same period, he met Yamaguchi; despite a rough start where he called Yamaguchi "pathetic" for being bullied, the two eventually became inseparable.
First Appearance at Karasuno
Tsukishima makes his debut alongside Yamaguchi, interrupting Hinata and Kageyama's early morning practice. He immediately establishes himself as an antagonist, mocking Hinata's stature and Kageyama's "King" nickname. During their 3-on-3 introductory match, Tsukishima uses his height and intelligence to shut down Hinata's spikes with ease. However, when the duo unveils their "God-Like Quick," Tsukishima is forced to play seriously for the first time in years, eventually losing the match but igniting a slow-burning competitive spark within himself.
The Battle of Aobajōsai
During the practice match against Aobajōsai, Tsukishima's tactical nature is noted by the opposing coach, who identifies him as a "smart" but emotionally detached blocker. His composure is tested when the Great King, Tooru Oikawa, enters the match. Recognizing Tsukishima as a first-year with potential reception weaknesses, Oikawa targets him relentlessly with his monstrous serves, forcing Tsukishima to confront the technical gaps in his game.
