Aki Hayakawa
Aki Hayakawa was a veteran Public Safety Devil Hunter, serving as a key member of Makima's special division. Throughout his career, he held powerful contracts with the Curse Devil and the Future Devil, following a previous contract with the Fox Devil. Tragedy struck when Aki was killed and possessed by 20% of the Gun Devil, transforming him into the devastating Gun Fiend.
He served as the central deuteragonist of the Public Safety Saga.

Appearance
Human Form
Aki was a handsome young man with medium-length black hair and expressive blue eyes. He typically styled his hair in a top-knot bun, which became his signature look. As a professional hunter, he almost always wore the standard Public Safety suit and tie, accessorized with small earrings and his specialized sword carried prominently on his back.
The Gun Fiend Form
Following his transformation into the Gun Fiend, Aki's appearance changed drastically. His hair became loose, and dark veins spread across his face. Most notably, the barrel and slide of an M1911 pistol protruded from between his eyes, with the hammer emerging from the back of his head. His left forearm was entirely replaced by an M16A1 assault rifle, symbolizing the Gun Devil's overwhelming influence.

Personality
At first glance, Aki appears to be a stoic and cold professional. He maintains a mature, often rough exterior to hide his deep sensitivity. Unlike many other hunters who become jaded, Aki retains his humanity; he mourns every fallen comrade and is driven by a deep-seated desire for revenge against the Gun Devil for the death of his family.
While he initially despised Denji and Power for their immaturity, he eventually formed a sibling-like bond with them. His air of detachment was a facade, as seen when he broke down after Himeno's death. Ultimately, Aki's love for his newfound family led him to try and abandon his quest for revenge just to keep them safe, showing that his heart was his greatest strength—and his greatest vulnerability.
Key Relationships
Denji & Power
Originally roommates by force, Aki grew to view Denji and Power as family. He transitioned from being their stern guardian to a protective older brother. His final wish was for them to live happy lives, even at the cost of his own.
Himeno
Aki's first partner and mentor. Himeno was the one who taught him the ropes and shared a deep, unspoken bond with him. Her death left a permanent scar on Aki's psyche, further fueling his drive to end the cycle of devil-inflicted suffering.
Makima
Aki held a deep, almost obsessive crush on Makima. However, it was later revealed that much of his devotion was the result of her manipulative Control Devil powers. To Makima, Aki was never more than a tool to be used and eventually discarded.
Abilities
The Devil Hunter's Arsenal
- Curse Devil Contract: Using a nail-shaped sword, Aki could summon the Curse Devil to fatally strike an opponent after three precise stabs, though this came at the cost of years of his life.
- Future Devil Contract: In exchange for letting the Future Devil reside in his eye, Aki gained the ability to see a few seconds into the future, granting him incredible defensive reflexes.
- Expert Swordsman: Even without supernatural aid, Aki was a master of the blade and highly trained in hand-to-hand combat.
The Gun Fiend's Power
- Bullet Projection: In his Fiend state, Aki could fire massive rounds from his arm and head with pinpoint accuracy, capable of leveling entire city blocks.
- Extreme Speed: His speed increased to supernatural levels, allowing him to outpace even the strongest hybrids during his final battle with Denji.
